【私が見てきた現実】
京都で金属工芸の職人として、15年間手を動かし続けてきました。
技術を磨くことに迷いはありませんでした。ただ、ある疑問がずっと頭を離れなかったのです。
このまま働き続けることは、工芸界の発展につながっているのだろうか。
現場で見てきた現実は、「工芸」という言葉の輝きとはかけ離れたものでした。
仕事がない日は帰宅を促され、月の給料が一桁万円という職人も見てきました。
独立したものの、一人では限界があり、時間いっぱい制作しても利益が出せず、今も自転車操業で続けている人もいます。
職人という夢そのものを諦めていく人たちを、何人も見てきました。
技術はある。意志もある。それでも、食えない。
職人という仕事を選んだことを、後悔させてしまう構造がそこにありました。
I spent 15 years as a metalworking artisan in Kyoto.
I never doubted the importance of honing my craft. But one question never left me:
Is simply continuing to work actually contributing to the future of this industry?
The reality I witnessed was far removed from the romance of the word "craft."
I've seen artisans sent home on slow days, earning single-digit monthly salaries.
I've seen people go independent, only to hit the limits of working alone — producing as much as possible, yet still barely breaking even.
I've watched people walk away from the craft itself — not just the job, but the dream.
The skill was there. The will was there. And still, they couldn't make it work.
There was a structure in place that made people regret choosing this path.
【このままでは、技術が消える】
職人が育たなければ、技術は継承されません。技術が継承されなければ、工芸は消えます。
しかし問題は、個人の努力だけでは変えられない構造の中にありました。どれだけ腕を磨いても、仕事がなければ生活できない。生活できなければ、続けられない。
日本の工芸が持つ卓越した技術が、静かに失われていく。それは金属工芸だけの問題ではありません。その危機感が、私を動かしました。
あなたが今、量産品のジュエリーに物足りなさを感じているとすれば、その理由のひとつはここにあります。卓越した職人が育つ環境がなければ、本当の意味での手仕事は生まれてこないのです。
If artisans can't survive, skills won't be passed on. If skills aren't passed on, craft disappears.
But the problem wasn't one that individual effort could solve. No matter how much you refine your craft, you can't continue without income.
The extraordinary techniques held within Japanese craft traditions are quietly disappearing. And this isn't a problem limited to metalworking alone. That sense of urgency is what moved me to act.
If you've ever felt unsatisfied with mass-produced jewelry, part of the reason lies here. Without an environment where exceptional artisans can grow, true handcraft cannot exist.
【RIOROを立ち上げた理由】
ただ働いているだけでは、工芸界は変わりません。
そう確信したとき、自分にできることがひとつ見えました。職人が安定した収入を得られる場所をつくること。職人になりたい者が、職人として生きていける環境を一つつくること。
卓越した技術を持つ職人が育ち、その技術が高いレベルで次の世代へ継承されていく。RIOROは、その答えとして生まれました。
私がRIOROを作ったのは、ビジネスのためだけではありません。前進し続けたいという願望が、私自身にあるからです。そしてRIOROを手にする人も、同じ願望を持っている。その確信があります。
Simply continuing to work won't change the industry.
When I reached that conclusion, one thing became clear: I needed to build a place where artisans could earn a stable income. An environment where those who want to dedicate their lives to craft can actually do so.
A place where exceptional artisans grow, and their skills are passed on at the highest level. RIORO was born as that answer.
I didn't build RIORO purely for business. I built it because I have my own desire to keep moving forward. And I believe the people who wear RIORO carry that same desire. That conviction has never wavered.
【ものづくりの軸】
RIOROのジュエリーの中身は、金属の伝統工芸です。
ジュエリーという形をとりながら、その根底には日本の金属工芸が長年積み上げてきた技術と思想があります。どの伝統技術がジュエリーに活きるか。どうアプローチすれば、その技術が現代の表現として発展するか。それを常に考えながら制作しています。
量産に耐えられる構造を持ちながら、手作業でしか出せない部分は徹底的に作り込む。その両立が、RIOROのものづくりの基本姿勢です。

While it takes the form of jewelry, the foundation is the accumulated technique and philosophy of Japanese craft. Which traditional methods translate into jewelry? How can those methods evolve into contemporary expression? These are the questions that guide every piece.
Structures built to withstand repeated wear, combined with elements that only handwork can produce. That balance is the foundation of how RIORO makes things.
